In the old days a blacksmith would finish his work with a little wax and soot from the forge. The mixture would give the metal it's famous dull black appearance with silvery highlights. To echo this, ER ensures that every wrought iron entry gate, entry door, stair railing and wine cellar door captures the unique characteristics of the "wrought" finish.

What is Wrought Iron? (not rod iron)
When most people talk about wrought iron they mean the "look" of the black/silver hammered finish used on the iron work. The word "wrought" is an old world one that means "any metal that is hammered, twisted or bent into shape." This compares to "cast" which is poured in a foundry. "Wrought" not "Rod Iron" is also the name of the physical metal itself, "Wrought Iron."

Wrought iron is no longer produced in the USA. Real wrought iron can only be imported from europe or reclaimed from an older structure. Not surprisingly then, nearly all new "wrought iron" products are actually made of mild steel.
